Hemodialysis Unit was established on 20 July 1980 by Dr. Ferruh Üstün, Chief of Internal Medicine Clinic, with 5 Travenol brand devices. It is the first dialysis unit in the region together with Ege University.

Peritoneal Dialysis Unit has been serving with 2 beds using the Intermittent Peritoneal Dialysis (IPD) method since 1975.

In 1984, 9 acetate dialysis devices of the period were switched to closed system devices.

Reaching 15 devices with 6 more modern UF controlled Bicarbonate HD devices in 1994, the center started to serve 6 days a week. In the same year, the establishment of an Organ Transplant Center in the hospital was completed and kidney transplants started.

The center, which has been following the modernization process over the years in the light of scientific data, has become stronger with 3 Adult Nephrology Specialists and 4 Pediatric Nephrologists.

The Dialysis Unit, which was moved to its new service area in July 2012, has a more modern structure with Acute and chronic hemodialysis treatment, Peritoneal Dialysis Unit, Polyclinics, Organ Transplant Polyclinic and training rooms in this new area.

Currently, it provides services to adult and pediatric dialysis patients with 12 + 1 hemodialysis devices, 3 hemodialysis physicians, 10 nurses, and 2 dialysis technicians.

In addition, it can provide emergency dialysis support with 11 HD devices to patients hospitalized in all intensive care units and wards.

The total number of sessions per year has approached 14000.

Peritoneal Dialysis Unit continues to actively work with 2 nurses using Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis method under the responsibility of Adult and Pediatric Nephrologists (CAPD).
