Anesthesiology and Reanimation Clinic was founded in 1971, when the Tepecik Training and Research Hospital began to provide services. The intensive care services were carried out in the form of open intensive care or rotations until the foundation of a 20-bed intensive care unit in 2008. ICU was attached to the Anesthesiology and Reanimation Department and the education supervisor was Prof Dr Mustafa Gönüllü. After 2008, the Level 3 Anesthesiology ICU was carried out by the anesthesiologist intensive care physicians, who underwent at least 80% of their work in intensive care unit. In 2011, the number of beds increased to 27 due to increased demand. After the retirement of Mustafa Gönüllü in 2013, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Işıl Köse and later Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nimet Şenoğlu assumed responsibility for Anesthesiology ICU.
In 2012, Intensive Care was accepted as the newly established expertise in the field of medicine and later in many clinics in Turkey ICU fellowship programs have started. Our Anesthesiology Intensive Care Clinic created a joint protocol with Suat Seren EAH Intensive Care Clinic in 2014 and started to provide intensive care fellowship program as of 2015. With this program, 5 full-featured ICU specialists in knowledge and skills have been introduced to the intensive care community. Since 2016, Tepecik Training and Research Hospital ICU fellowship program has been started by the education coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nimet Şenoğlu. It is a clinic, where still 8 ICU fellows and residents of anesthesiology trained and active health care services provided Except Dr. Nimet Şenoğlu, Intensive Care Specialist and Anesthesiology Assoc. Prof; 1 Anesthesiology associate profesor, 3 anesthesiologist and 2 intensive care specialist are actively taking part in both service and training processes. In our clinic, where we 2 times a year certified ICU nursing course organize, 7/24 service is provided with 1 intensive care nurse, 1 training nurse, 2 wound care nurses, 54 certified nurses, 2 intensive care experienced data entry personnel, additionally 7 clinical support staff, 8 cleaning staff.
In our Level 3 intensive care unit; where all kinds of medical and surgical patients are followed, treatment with all high level equipments which are required by modern medicine, such as USG and Echocardiography, cardiac flow measurement and all invasive / noninvasive monitoring methods, ECMO therapy, intermittent and continuous hemodialysis treatments, targeted temperature management in patients with post-cardiac arrest, are available. Level 3 intensive care unit with 26 beds, which involves advanced modern equipments and certified nurse staff in accordance with the criterias of Ministry of Health, has served an average of 800 patients per year in past years.
With the opening of the Bornova Oncology Additional Service Building in September, 7 Level 3 and 5 Level 2 intensive care beds have been put into service attached to ICU clinic with the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Işıl Köse.
